Future of TV
I feel TV should be changed based on how it views its shows. Instead of watching what is channel to be on TV, it should work interactively, you should be able to choose what you want to watch. Of course, they’d still have the same schedule, but shows would only become available at a certain time. Live shows would appear if the viewer wishes to view it, but would have to either catch up later, or start mid way.
Why? Too many shows are being cancelled due to their viewings, but aren’t being counted if viewed online or downloaded. If people choose to watch a show, TV companies can see an more accurate viewing of their statistics and then choose whether to cancel or continue.
How? It could work like Interactive TV and through the Internet. In the UK we have 4OD, iPlayer, ITVplayer etc. They all offer on demand shows. Combine them together with red button interactive TV, and you can choose what you want to watch on each channel. Obviously if you’re tuning into BBC One, you’d only see shows that would appear on BBC One, and ITV could incorporate adverts as they do online and on YouTube. It would be much easier to find exactly what you’re looking for and combining that with Sky would create a TV Guide of what exactly is available on each channel at certain points of the day, or a Search system to help find the channel your show is being viewed on. People would be able to watch live shows and not miss their regular TV slots on other channels. Watershed TV could only be viewed after a certain time. Movies and PPV TV will have to be purchasable within the system.
It could work..
